About Yala peak
Standing at an elevation of 5,520 meters above sea level, Yala peak is classified as a non-technical trekking peak. It is located in the Langtang range to the north of Kathmandu, near the Tibetan border.
Yala peak is a fairly simple peak to climb, requiring very little technical knowledge. The Yala summit is an excellent vantage point featuring a magnificent view of the nearby Shishapangma (8,013m), the tallest mountain peak in Tibet. You can also catch fantastic views of Nepali peaks such as Langtang Lirung, Langsisha Ri, Gangchepo and Dorche Pakpa..
Requiring no previous mountaineering experience, Yala is a great peak for your first Himalayan climb.The trekking routeto goes through the Langtang trekking area.
Aside from the peak climbing adventure, you will also experience the Tibetan influenced culture of the local Tamang people who live in the Langtang area. A fascinating chat or two with Tamangs while sipping some local milk tea is therefore likely.
The Yala peak journey starts with a 7 to 8 hour drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche. The next day you will start hiking in the Langtang region, passing through local villages and lush rhododendron forests, which are very beautiful in the spring season. After an exciting trek up the Langtang valley lasting several days, you will acclimatize at the Kyanjin Gompa at 3,800 m. This is a typical Himalayan location where you can see yaks grazing in the beautiful valley, with some of the highest mountains in the world watching from the background. At few days later, you will establish your base camp near the Langshisa glacier at 4,800 m, before beginning the climb the following day.
If you’re looking for a simple peak for your first Himalayan climb, Yala peak is perfect. It’s easy but still a very rewarding climb, requires no technical knowledge, and has a superb view from the summit! Basically, everything a beginner mountaineer could wish for!
