About Dhampus Peak
Located to the north-east of the colossal Dhaulagiri massif, Dhampus Peak (6012 m) offers an excellent climbing experience for mountaineering enthusiasts. This Himalayan peak has extremely close views of the Tukuche (6,920m) and Dhaulagiri (8,167m) mountains nearby.
From the Dhampus summit, you’ll get to experience incredible views of as many as 30 Himalayan peaks – including Machhapuchchhre, Annapurna I, and Manaslu. It is one of the best places to appreciate the altitude difference between the Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna ranges.
Although a non-technical peak, Dhampus might require some skill with crampons and axes, depending on the snow conditions. It is not a particularly challenging peak to climb and therefore shouldn’t be too difficult even for inexperienced mountaineers.
Climbers normally start their ascent from the west ridge, which leads directly to the challenging Dhampus Pass (5,200m). Having crossed the pass, climbers set up their High Camp here. The next day, they reach the Dhampus summit – an incomparable vantage point giving a majestic Himalayan panorama view.
