Lower Dolpa Trekking
Lower Dolpa trekking is located north- west of Nepal. It is a remote region where Tibetan types of Nepalese people live. The altitude variation is 2300m to 5200m high above sea level. There is village above 4100m and the people follow Tibetan Buddhism, Tibetan culture, polyandry marriage system and use yak, horse and sheep for transportation. The place seems as Tibetan plateau therefore it is said mini Tibet.
Lower Dolpa trekking starts after the short flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal airport 2320m. It is 18 days trekking including sightseeing in Kathmandu. The two high passes including Numa La 5190 and Baga La 5070m are interesting in this trip. The Oscar awarded film was shooting in this region and the local Actor is Thinley. A camping trek needs everyday 5 to 7 hours walk. The tribe people speak their own dialogue and their dress is unique.
Lower Dolpa trekking offers to visit even in monsoon because of it is a rain shadow area of Nepal. There are Bonpo monasteries in Do Tarap village. The occupations of the people are agriculture and animal farming. Horse is a transportation to reach most of the destination for local people. Monks take meditation in the cave 3 to 25 years to become lama. People are under the poverty line because of remoteness but the culture and tradition is very rich. The beautiful phoksundo lake, suligad waterfall, numerous species of medicinal plants with popular yarsa gunba is here. Day to Day Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Airport
Arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport and meet up there and Transfer to hotel. Rest of the day free for your own leisure. Trekking permit process and overnight at hotel.
Day 02: Full day sight seeing in Kathmandu Valley
Leave for full day sightseeing in Kathmandu valley includes the Hindu temple complex at Pashupatinath (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) & the biggest Buddhist Stupa at Boudhanath. Also visit Monkey Temple the Swyambhunath (2000 years old temple) and visit Patan city of fine arts. Back to hotel and stay.
Day 03: Kathmandu to Nepalgunj 165m
From Kathmandu 50 minutes flight to Nepalgunj airport. It is about 522km by road to Nepalgunj takes 16 hours by night bus. It is located south-western of Nepal. Stay overnight here.
Day 04: Nepalgunj to Juphal 2320m and trek to Dunai 2110m
Ride 6km road by jeep to the airport. Take a 35 minutes flight early in the morning with an arial view of snowcapped mountains, forest, village and rivers to Juphal airport. Here is windy valley so all flight should flight out before 10 AM. Start to walk and descend through meadows to reach Kala Gaura 2090m with hotel. Follow the river to reach Dunai. Stay over night here.
Day 05: Dunai to Tarakot 2540m
Take a hot breakfast and walk along the south bank of Bheri River. There are suspension bridge, villages, deep gorges, pine trees, terraced field to reach Tarakot. Here is Dzong (fort). Stay overnight here at camp.
Day 06: Tarakot to Laini 3160m
Walk to reach bridge over Tarap Chu River couple of time then you will meet Sandul Gompa with influence of Tarap Chu River and Barbung Khola. Walk through villages with terraced field, some ups and downs then reach to Laini. Stay overnight here at camp.
Day 07: Laini to Nawarpani 3540m
Walk through Tarap River gorge and descend to Chyugur Khola with wonderful bridge to reach Nawarpani. Stay overnight here at camp.
Day 08: Nawarpani to Dho Tarap village 4090m
Walk gradually to reach Kamattaka with a confluence of Lang Khola and Tarap Chu Khola. Walk with narrow gorge to reach the juniper bush landscape with Himalayan valley. Walk continues to reach Dho Tarap. Here are Magar and Tibetan people with bonpo religion. Stay overnight here at camp
Day 09: Rest day at Dho Tarap village
Acclimatization your body with exploring the alpine village, cultue, people and Tibetan Buddhism. Visit the gompas around here. Stay overnight here at camp.
Day 10: Dho Tarap to Numa La Base Camp 4435m
Walk thorugh the pleasant valley towards upper Tarap with Tarap Chu Khola. You will meet Tokyu village with Chaiba sect monastery. Visit here and continues walk with rough trail to reach Numa La Base Camp. Stay overnight here at camp.
Day 11 Numa La Base Camp to Pelung Tang 4465m
Walk steeply uphill to reach the Numa La Pass 5190m. Here is the superb view of barren mountains with Dhaulagiri 8167m. Descend to reach Pelung Tang. Stay overnight here at camp.
Day 12: Pelung Tang to Dajok Tang 4080m
Walk steeply uphill to reach Baga La Pass 5070m with a great view of Kanjirowa Himalaya range and surrounding landscapes. Descend to reach Dajok Tang. Stay overnight here at camp.
Day 13: Dajok Tang to Ringmo Village 3600m
Take a hot breakfast and walk through pine forest, yak pastures with alpine shrubs to reach Ringmo Village. Stay overnight here at camp.
Day 14: Rest day at Ringmo Village
Take rest here and explore around here. You will visit Phoksundo Lake, Monastries and Ringmo Village then back to camp. Stay overnight at camp.
Day 15: Ringmo Village to Shyanta 2520m
Take hot breakfast and descend towards Chepka. Climb uphill then you will meet villages. Climb uphill to reach Shyanta. Stay overnight here at camp.
Day 16: Shyanta to Juphal 2320m
Walk gradually uphill towards Sulighat. Walk thorugh birch forest with the view of mountain and Juphal. Continues walk to reach Juphal. Make sure for your tomarrow morning flight today. Stay overnight here at camp.
Day 17: Juphal to Nealgunj 165m
Take a morning flight with twin ottor with the view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayan view, villages, forest and rivers. Try another flight from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu which takes 50 minutes. Stay overnight at hotel with breakfast in Kathmandu.
Day 18: Departure to Tribhuban International Airport
